Artist Statement
As Dostoevsky said in Crime and Punishment, “Everything depends on the environment in which man lives: it is the environment that determines everything, and man is nothing.” This concept is also true in our visually polluted world, and I address this feeling in my work. With the transformative power of light, a figure or landscape can find its meaning in seconds. For over 19 years, I have been photographing people from every angle using natural light, artificial light systems, and UV lights, reshaping them with light. Using visible and invisible lights, with machines that capture and record light, I aim to record a new spirit that, alongside elements of color, texture, and volume, is the most important to me. By leveraging the properties of light, I strive to infuse my soul into portraits that also possess a soul. The personality and physicality of the person I photograph interact dynamically with my artistic vision, resulting in creative outcomes that can change at any moment. In summary, my works are emotional photographs, elevated to a certain aesthetic level by the seductiveness of poetics.
Bio
Burak Bulut has been a full-time photographer and photography mentor for over 19 years. He began his career as an art journalist, during which time he discovered photography. In 2005, he opened his first photography studio in Istanbul, Turkey. Since then, Burak has been working as a commercial photographer for global and domestic brands and has held exhibitions all over Europe.
In 2019, Burak was selected as an Imaging Ambassador by Sony Europe, and he has been reselected every year since. Throughout his 19-year career, his fascination with shaping light has not diminished. He remains passionate about living in the magical world of photography.
Burak also runs a photography school that has trained over 5,000 students. He finds great joy in sharing his passion and knowledge with the next generation of photographers.
